Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Set for Major Upgrade: What to Expect

Bajaj Auto is set to unveil a new-generation model of the Chetak electric scooter on December 20, marking its first major update since the scooter’s debut in early 2020. This upcoming launch is creating a buzz among electric scooter enthusiasts, especially after a test version was recently spotted near Bajaj’s Chakan plant in Pune.

What’s New in the Upcoming Bajaj Chetak?

Based on the spy shots, the new Chetak maintains its classic retro design, with familiar features like the round LED headlight, curvy body panels, and a distinctive rear profile. However, it looks like Bajaj has made a few subtle design tweaks, particularly with the taillights, which appear slightly reshaped.

One of the most significant updates is expected to be a brand-new chassis. This redesign aims to make the scooter more practical for daily use. In the current model, the battery pack takes up most of the underseat storage space. To solve this, Bajaj is likely to reposition the battery pack under the floorboard, freeing up valuable storage space under the seat.

Expected Features and Hardware Changes

The spy images reveal that the new Chetak rides on steel rims and features drum brakes on both ends. Unlike the current model, which offers a lockable glovebox and keyless start/stop, the new version might stick to a simpler design with a physical ignition slot. Additionally, instead of a TFT display, the updated Chetak could feature a more

basic LCD instrument panel.

Battery and Range Upgrades

Although Bajaj hasn’t officially revealed the specifications yet, the repositioned battery could pave the way for new battery capacity options. Currently, the Chetak has two battery packs: 2.88 kWh and 3.2 kWh. These provide a range of 123 km and 137 km, respectively. The updated model may offer an extended range, making it even more competitive in the electric scooter market.

Pricing Expectations

Given the simplified features and changes in the design, the new-gen Chetak is expected to be more affordable than the current models, which are priced between ₹96,000 and ₹1.29 lakh (ex-showroom).

Conclusion

With its upcoming launch on December 20, the refreshed Bajaj Chetak promises to be a more practical and affordable electric scooter, while staying true to its retro charm. Whether you’re a long-time Chetak fan or a new buyer exploring electric options, this update is worth watching.
